1635-ÖS NAGYSZOMBATI EGYETEMALAPÍTÁS PÁPAI ELISMERTSÉGÉNEK KÉRDÉSÉHEZ

A magyar történettudomány sarkalatos állítása, miszerint az 1635. évi nagyszombati egyetemalapítás csupán császári jóváhagyást nyert. VIII. Orbán pápa orvosi és jogi kar hiánya miatt megtagadta a megerősítést. Jelen tanulmány azt bizonytja, hogy Apostoli Szentszék így kánonjog oldaláról is, előzetes felhatalmazás révén intézményspecifikusan biztosítva volt elismerés Pázmány Péter esztergomi érsek alapítása számára. Kimutatásra kerül, május 12-ei azonnali pápai megerősítésének elmaradása jezsuita rend vezetésének kifogásaira vezethető vissza. Igazolást nyer továbbá, római Kúria részéről Pázmány-i alapítás ünnepélyes megerősítése valójában nem intézmény kétfakultásos, hanem sokkal inkább jellege maradt el. Az okokat középkori alapítású egyetemek kolduló rendek korábbinál hathatósabb érdekérvényesítésében, illetve Jézus Társaság fokozatos térvesztésének megkezdődésében találhatjuk meg. utólagos szentszéki megerősítés, egyetemi kiváltságok bulla formájában történő adományozásának ellenére azért mehetett végbe hozzájárulással, mert 1632 májusában, követjárása során brévében kapott – egyetemalapítási felhatalmazást Orbántól.
